Get on the Water: Boat, SUP, & Jet Ski Rentals

Beaver Lake is a paradise for water lovers, so naturally one of the top things to do here is simply to get out on the water. Bring your own boat or rent one from marinas such as Prairie Creek, Horseshoe Bend, Rocky Branch, and Hickory Creek.

For a more active day, hop in a kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard to explore hidden coves and shorelines. Rentals for kayaks, paddleboards, tubes, pontoons, fishing boats, ski boats, sailboats, and even jet skis are available through local outfitters like Beaver Lake Outdoor Center.

Beaver Lake is nationally renowned as a premier fishing destination, especially for bass fishing. Anglers will find largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass, catfish, and more. There are plenty of opportunities for both beginners and experienced fishers to cast a line and catch a fish.

The lake’s crystal-clear water and rocky bottom provide excellent visibility. This draws scuba divers, intrigued by the underwater bluffs and old, partial structures. Local dive shops offer both gear, guidance, and training.

If you prefer to enjoy the waters without a boat, there are some wonderful spots along the shore for swimming or picnicking. Those looking for something beyond the ordinary will enjoy a visit to War Eagle Cavern. This unique cave is one of the oldest show caves in the state, one of the largest caves in Northwest Arkansas, AND the state’s only lakeside cavern – all less than an hour from Sugar Ridge Resort!

War Eagle Cavern has three stories of caverns, strange subterranean formations, an underground lake, cave wildlife, waterfalls, and a fresh water spring that flows out of the cave’s mouth. A variety of guided tours are offered, along with gemstone panning, a maze, the Moonshiners’ Mystery Shack, gift shop, and feeding lake fish from the boat dock.

Autumn in the Eureka Springs area is a truly magical time. The colors begin to unfold in late September or early October, with peak color typically appearing late October. A multi-hued masterpiece painted by nature and the perfect excuse for an Arkansas fall foliage getaway!

Arkansas Fall Foliage Drives

There’s nothing like a fall foliage drive to truly immerse yourself in the season, and the Eureka Springs area has plenty of great options.

Take the legendary Pig Trail Scenic Byway, for example. This serpentine road cuts through dense hardwoods and is famous for its intoxicating charm. I fall, each bend offers a fresh wash of colors, the foliage rising and falling around you as you pass.

The Scenic 7 Byway remains one of the country’s most famous fall foliage drives. Located in Ozark National Forest, just south of Eureka Springs, the 290 mile route serves up a variety of unique geography and scenic views. Another good option is the Highway 187 Loop, which takes you through forest and across multiple bodies of water.

In all honesty, Arkansas fall foliage road trip possibilities are nearly endless. The area’s scenic byways are always beautiful but especially in fall. 

Leaf-Peeping, Hiking, and Biking Trails

Those looking to get closer to nature will discover that the Eureka Springs area is also excellent hiking and mountain biking country. 

Hawksbill Crag/Whitaker Point, is always an excellent outdoor destination but, come autumn, provides incredible fall views. The site’s breathtaking, panoramic views make the moderate, 2.7-mile round-trip hike totally worth it.

Another, outstanding fall foliage destination is Dogwood Canyon Nature Park. Autumn color enthusiasts will thrill at the 10,000 acres of hiking, biking, and exceptional Ozark Mountain views.

Arkansas largest state park, Hobbs State Park, is also nearby and another excellent port of call for stunning autumn color. Here you’ll discover over 12,000 acres of dense Ozarks forest and shoreline, crisscrossed by bike trails, and walking paths. Be sure to check out the Visitor Center and Van Winkle Hollow, too.

If you like a little history mixed in with your scenery, consider a visit to Pea Ridge National Military Park. The park’s self-guided tours will treat you to both the battlefield’s history and beautiful fall colors.

A short ride to the west brings you to the Blue Spring Heritage Center. Here, a crystalline spring surrounded by hardwoods, bubbles into a verdant pond. Always beautiful, the curated, woodland oasis really shines in autumn.

Lake Leatherwood City Park, in Eureka Springs, offers yet another excellent fall destination. The 1,600-acre park features trails and a spring-fed lake surrounded by a hardwood forest that bursts into color, come fall. The park’s popular Beacham Trail loops around the lake, for views of the fall colors reflecting in the water.

Spring has sprung, summer has come and gone. Now it’s time for fall – and what a glorious fall it will be! This year’s autumn colors are going to be especially vibrant and Beaver Lake is the perfect Arkansas fall foliage destination!

It’s always beautiful at Beaver Lake but it’s also true that some seasons are more striking than others. While it’s hard to beat the greening in spring and sunny summer, autumn’s colors have it, hands down.

Here in Northern Arkansas, notable color change begins working its way down the mountains in late September or early October. Peak color typically appears late October. That means now is the perfect time start planning your Arkansas fall foliage getaway at Sugar Ridge Resort!

Arkansas Fall Foliage Drives

One of the easiest and most pleasant ways to take in as much Arkansas fall foliage as possible is with a relaxing, scenic drive.  The winding mountain roads of the Ozarks are always entrancing but, come fall, they verge on the fantastic. Head out and take in all those amazing fall colors, stopping whenever you like to really take in all that majestic beauty.

Autumn road trip possibilities in and around Eureka Springs are nearly endless. Many of the area’s scenic byways are absolutely stunning in fall. We suggest checking out the drive between highways 23 and 16 and highways 7 and 62, for starters.

Another good option is Scenic 7 Byway, one of the area’s – and the country’s – most popular fall drives. The 290 mile route, located in Ozark National Forest, just south of Eureka Springs, offers varied geography and scenic views.

Pig Trail Scenic Byway is also particularly brilliant in both spring and fall. Pig Trail is a 19 mile long tunnel of foliage that crosses the Mulberry River and the 165-mile Ozark Highlands Trail.

Pea Ridge National Military Park is another fine, fall destination. Visit the park and drive the self-guided tour to experience both the historic battlefield and the area’s amazing fall foliage.

Fall Foliage Hikes and Biking Trails

Scenic drives are great but there may be no better way to enjoy the Arkansas fall foliage than to simply get out in it. Luckily, both Beaver Lake and Eureka Springs are loaded with excellent hiking and mountain biking opportunities.

Whitaker Point, aka Hawksbill Crag, is considered the most romantic spot in the Arkansas. Come autumn, it’s also an incredible vantage point for viewing an absolute sea of fall colors. The moderately challenging, 2.7-mile round-trip hike on Whitaker Point Trail takes around 2 hours but pays off in fantastic, panoramic views.

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is another worthy fall foliage destination. The park offers 10,000 acres hiking, biking, fishing, and exceptional views of the Ozark Mountains.
